John Gosen, Free Acres Elementary

John Gosen
Free Acres Elementary
Scarsdale, NY
1972-73

There were no drugs for HIV in the early 70's. You stopped teaching upon learning ur status. I moved away and when I returned years later,
you'd died. But you were the first person to ever cast me in a play, the Mayor of Punxawtawny PA.
It started my love affair for the theater for which I will never forget you. Taking an entire class on a trip to Boston from NY, the planning, the organizing. You were amazing!

I adored Mrs. Veri. As the new second grader from New Zealand, I didn't fit in well in my Miami classroom, but my teacher always made me feel so welcome. She taught me to love learning, and from her, I went on to love reading and my entire educational experience. Thank you Mrs Veri!

Thank you Mr Christie for playing classical music at the beginning of each class and for introducing us to art and philosophy. You always asked what we thought and had a positive comment about our interpretation. You made a big difference in my life and I always remember how special you were.

Suzette was actually my sons' music teacher during all of their elementary school years. She was fun, theatrical, serious about music and very serious about teaching. She had a very special program each year for the 4th and 5th graders called MusiKids where the kids went through an audition and casting process. The musicals were mini-Broadway productions and really taught the kids an appreciation for musical theatre and the discipline required to participate. Our oldest son was very shy and did not like being in front of his classroom or crowds of any kind. Suzette found a role for him in the play she produced his 5th grade year that gave him lots of stage time but the only line he had was "moo". It was great and really brought him out of his shell. I credit Suzette with helping him with this very challenging aspect of growing up. I love her for being who she is, for bringing this love of music and theatre to young people, and for always doing it with enthusiasm!!!

Mrs. Frierson was one of my favorite teachers in junior high. She was such a sweet lady and certainly made math tolerable. We were always happy to see each other and I've remembered her always. Thank you Mrs. Frierson!

Mrs. Schweer,

I really want to thank you for that clove ship you brought my family from Indonesia. My parents still have it at their house. From what I remember of 2nd grade - you were a very nice teacher.

Sincerely,
